Siemens healthineers

An evolution in point-of-care.

Siemens Healthineers offers a vast and varied range of critical and chronic care products. I helped bring them together into a single, beautiful OS.

Background

Siemens Healthineers, a leading provider of critical and chronic care products, embarked on a transformative project to streamline their diverse range of solutions into a unified operating system (OS). This case study highlights the successful collaboration I led between my team at Native Design and Siemens in developing an innovative platform, one which seamlessly scales across various healthcare environments, enhances usability for professionals, and optimizes cost-efficiency.

The primary goal of the project was to create a single, intuitive platform capable of serving multiple healthcare settings, including emergency rooms, operating rooms, physicians' offices, public health clinics, and laboratories. Additionally, the aim was to design a solution which catered to the unique needs of different end-users, such as nurses, physicians, medical technicians, and lab diagnosticians, while simultaneously reducing costs and the required bench space.

Approach

The project encompassed comprehensive global research, iterative design, and extensive user testing to ensure the platform's efficacy and user-friendliness. To gather valuable insights and perspectives, a diverse group of medical professionals, including a respiratory therapist, an emergency medicine director, and a point-of-care coordinator, were carefully selected to form the test group.

Traditionally, medical test engines were isolated by their specific functions, leading to significant capital investments and occupying substantial bench space. To overcome these challenges, Siemens Healthineers aimed to develop a flexible product solution which allowed for various combinations of engines within a single build, thereby minimizing the required bench space.

Solution

My team at Native Design designed an innovative UI solution for Siemens Healthineers to successfully address these challenges. We introduced a highly adaptable platform which revolutionizes the medical testing landscape. This flexible solution enables seamless integration of multiple test engines, such as COAG, Urinalysis, and Lipids, within the same platform and on a single screen.

The platform's initial release is available on the new Atellica® DCA Analyzer, showcasing its immediate impact on healthcare facilities.

Results

Siemens Healthineers' collaborative efforts in creating a comprehensive, integrated platform have successfully addressed the challenges associated with disparate medical test engines. This innovative solution enhances healthcare efficiency, reduces costs, and streamlines operations across various healthcare settings.

The unified platform is poised to revolutionize the industry, empowering healthcare providers to deliver superior care while optimizing resources.
